A Thousand Origami Cranes

"An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. Some stories believe you are granted eternal good luck, instead of just one wish, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury."
-Source: Wikipedia

I wanna make a thousand origami cranes. I've made my first 50 orginami cranes this week. You will help me make my wish come true.

Legend has it that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. #sassyhairsies

I am giving 1 origami crane for each Sassy Hairsies box I send out as a token of appreciation for the love and support you all give to me and Sassy Hairsies. Let's see how long it'll take me to reach a thousand! *wink*

Nostaglia

I have personal Flickr Pro account and it only contains about 5% of my entire database of photos to date! I need to get it in sync with my life. Haha! I want it to be my year-end goal. I am to renew my subscription for yet another year and I want to make the most of it from hereon. Photos are precious and priceless. I have backups of my backups. That's how much I don't want to lose them.

So, while organizing what's currently uploaded, I got to visit my old sets/collections. And I had this "looking back" moment on how I started with Sassy Hairsies.

I got into online shopping while I was pregnant with Bea. I got invited by a multiply seller selling hand made stuff from the States. The stuff were to die for but costs too much $$$$. So I turned to my scrapbook baul and got flowers and brads and buttons and made Bea her first hair clips. I did love flowers more than ribbons ever since. Three years ago, ribbons and bows were more common than flower hair accessories. Most online sellers at the time sell them. I want unique, if possible, one a kind.

This was taken during her 1st photo session with BUB.

Yes, it did come to me that I wish there was a Sassy Hairsies back in the day.

This is one of my earlier designs (i never got to sell this, i think i have just 2 pieces of this flower)

This one I got during one of my visits in the US. Very expensive. But I loved it so much and I have never seen anything like it online (at the time). It has the largest Swarovski rhinestone!
Merry Christmas Darling II B

That shop carried a wide variety of flower headbands, none like most online sellers sell (that were obviously sourced in bulk and re-sold). The flowers look real (meaning not perfect looking) and of really really good quality. It uses super sparkly Swarovski rhinestones (which still looks good as new, 3 years today). The catch? Insanely expensive. On the average, a headband costs about US$20.00! I think it was not because of the "brand", or the high quality materials alone that made the headbands so expensive - it was because the stuff were hand made. And well, they should be earning $$$ =P

Anyway, so that is why I started with Sassy Hairsies - I wanted to "share" equally gorgeous headbands at prices most families earning in the Philippines can afford. After a lot of sleepless nights researching, I found out that most local sellers at the time sell only ribbons and bows, and does not have a wide range of flower headbands/clips to choose from. Because of that (and my love for flowers over ribbons), most collections I come out with are flowers. Don't get me wrong, I also like bows and ribbons - I make them for Bea to wear, but I opt not to sell them anymore. =P

Gift Tags

One of the items in my short list of 2012 resolutions is to go back scrap booking for my little girl. I used to do this a lot back when my schedule permits my creative hands to work. But truth be told, despite being a professional IT person, I suck at using photoshop (or any photo editing tool). I prefer to do it by hand.

Anyway, in order to successfully do that, I have to resort to doing it digitally. And so, I have been practicing. One of my practice-projects -> the new Sassy Hairsies gift tags.

If you were one of my first clients, you'd know I gave out hand made gift tags. I made it from printed {preferably floral} card boards and had a little piece of paper insert with the To/From part. I used decorative corner punchers to do the 'insert'. That was when, work was less demanding, daughter used to always sleep and hubby was less demanding. Haha!

I hope you'll all like this new set of gift tags I made to jump start 2012.

FAQ1: When you're buying for a gift to a loved on, you may get gift tag/s for free. Just let me know and I'll include them.
FAQ2: Please use sign pen/pentel pen as I printed the tags using glossy card stock.

Useful Links

Fixing this Facebook page is at the top of my Sassy-To Do List in 2012. As most of you know, I do everything by myself leaving me with very little time to do some things like making this Facebook page more informative.

My shop is built on Multiply.com. However, since most people are not frequently opening their multiply page anymore, I am encouraging mommies to get connected with Sassy Hairsies in Facebook instead.

I do notice that information are scattered all around. I do intend to fix that. But for now, please refer below for links you may find useful:

Sassy Hairsies Shop - www.sassyhairsies.com (this link redirects you to Sassy Hairsies' multiply home page)
Sassy Hairsies Blog - http://sassyhairsies.blogspot.com/
Order Form - http://sassyhairsies.multiply.com/journal/item/1/Order_Form
Email Address - sassyhairsies@gmail.com

I do not intend to use Facebook as a shopping portal. It is only used for keeping info in 1 place and linking myself to all mommies out there. Having said that, I apologize for making you switch from Facebook to Multiply. Here's hoping for your understanding.

Bye 2011, What's New This 2012

Year 2011 is almost over. I had a fun year this year. Personally, professionally and Sassily.

Sassy Hairsies turned 1 early this year. In my opinion, I think my little shop became more popular and known both locally and internationally. I got many commendations from clients and more referred mommies. I couldn't thank all of you enough who made my little hobby-turned-business a success.

As most of you know already, I am not full-time with Sassy Hairsies. I have a full-time day job. I work at a multinational company in the IT industry. It is NOT a 8-5-job, unfortunately. I work with Sassy Hairsies in between coming home from work, taking care of my little boy-dog, little girl, hubby and myself. Yes, I am a superwoman. =) But what can I do, I really do enjoy working with crafts. It relaxes me and it frees my mind off worries about my day job.

I work alone. Yes. From design, to materials-shopping, to actual execution to packaging to marketing, etc etc.  The only help I get is from my cousin (who takes care of my shipping after I had scheduled it) and my daughter's yaya who brings packages for ship out to my cousin's office. I think I'm still in denial that I needed help already. Some of my friends hate me for refusing my shop to grow. I want to do everything myself. I think I still like the idea that the shop is small and personalized and one of a kind. Honestly, demand is higher than what i can supply. Yes, I aced Economics in college, I know that that is not a good scene. =P So anyway, there are times I refuse mommies with rush orders, or mommies who wants customized headpieces for their little ones - and I am so deeply sorry for that.

Having said all that, you should know how much ideas are in my head that lacks execution, how many "backlogs" I have at home and how many new designs lined up for prototyping. I would also like to apologize for delays (sometimes) and mistakes and promises of contests taking so long to materialize. I will be more organized and more "regular" this 2012. One of my many resolutions. Teehee!

So, what to watch out for this 2012?

Happy 1st Anniversary Sassy Hairsies!

Not so long ago, I was figuring out the date Sassy Hairsies officially rolled. I knew it had to be sometime in March 2010. I couldn't remember exactly.

As soon as I got the multiply account, I started uploading items. But only until my site designer was done did I start to really "promote" the site. Then I upgraded the account to premium.

I opened my multiply account today and saw this:

I couldn't believe it! One year already! How time flies! haha. So I am marking my "anniversary" at April 15, 2010. So...

It's fun to look at "old" photos. =) I really had fun making those. They jump-started my Sassy creativity! Haha.

Anyway, I wanted to do something for our sassy girls to commemorate this huge milestone! I will cook something up very soon. Come 2nd year anniversary, I won't be late with our surprise. I promise!

This post wont end without saying "Thank You" to all of you Sassy Girls (moms, ate's and babies) who love love love Sassy Hairsies! I hope you continue to and spread the  Sassy Love.
